UPPER EAST SIDE POST WAR BUILDING

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project was part of a gut renovation of the apartment.  The back wall is gloss white lacquer with a Heat Treated Oak veneer island.  One interesting design detail in this project is the eating area.  I was met with a challenge to accommodate this family of four with seating while preventing this island and seating area from encroaching on the dining/living space that it shares.  My solution was to keep the island tight to the back wall while shifting the table area towards the living area slightly in order to prevent a collision when someone opens the Refrigerator.  Nothing worse than being knocked off your stool when someone needs something from the refrigerator.
